Referring to my Despateh No. 147
the 7th. June last, I have the honour to transmit six
copies of the Report of the Director of the Hongkong Ob-
-servatory for the year 1905.

It will be noticed in the 5th.
paragraph of the report that telegraphic communication with
Gap Rock Lighthouse, whence weather reports are continuous-
-ly transmitted to the Observatory, was interrupted on no
less than 146 days during the year.
The cable to Gap Rock has been
for some time past in an unsatisfactory condition, and in
June last a new shore-end was fitted at the Rock by a
cable-steamer hired from the Great Northern Telegraph
Company, This end parted during a severe storm before it
had been made properly fast and though it was repaired as
RIGHT HONOURABLE
